PWDAC held a two day workshop for staff on disability rights and disability rights inclusion from the 18th to the 19th September 2025.

Day 1

Focused on foundational underpinnings of Disability as a human rights issue, defining disability and related concepts, Understanding Disability Etiquette and conceptualization disability, bringing to surface underlying discrimination embedded in our society and institutions.

Day 2

Was more practical highlighting how social model of disability can be applied to reform institutions including, emphasizing on the leadership of PWDAC and its staff as the drivers of this transformation at all levels of society.

 The aim

was to strengthen the capacity of staff on disability inclusion and introduce strategies to facilitate effective implementation of protecting, promoting and monitoring disability rights in Lesotho. PWDAC is established as a National Human Rights Institution established in furtherance of Article 33(2) of the Convection on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Section 4 of the Persons with Disability Equity Act of 2021.

PWDAC values staff training on disability and disability rights as an indispensable empowerment strategy critical to effective disability mainstreaming in the design and implementation of its broad mandate of protecting, promoting and monitoring the disability rights in Lesotho. The need for staff to understand & uphold the Council’s founding pillars like independence from government & private entities to maintain the status under human rights law cannot be downplayed.
