On this Global Accessibility Awareness Day, the Persons with Disability Advisory Council (PWDAC) joins the global community in reaffirming our shared commitment to accessibility and inclusion for all

The Persons with Disability Advisory Council (PWDAC) wishes to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the World Press Freedom Day. The celebrations for the World Freedom Day began in 1991 at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisations (UNESCO) Conference where the landmark Windhoek Declaration was adopted. The declaration which focused on print media, considered various issues on freedom of expression, access to information and public service role of journalism.

In August 2025, Lesotho Sign Language (LSL) was formally recognised as an Official Language in Lesotho in the 10th Amendment to the Constitution. This was more than a symbolic milestone, but a powerful commitment towards equality, and full participation for deaf persons.

The Persons with Disability Advisory Council (PWDAC) has carefully reviewed the 2026/2027
Budget Estimates Speech. This statement provides an analysis of the extent to which the national
budget is inclusive of persons with disabilities and offers recommendations to strengthen
disability-responsive budgeting in Lesotho.

Today marked an important milestone as the Persons with Disability Advisory Council (PWDAC) and the Office of the Ombudsman formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in the promotion, protection, and monitoring of the rights of persons with disabilities

Today, 28 January 2026, the Persons with Disability Advisory Council (PWDAC) had a courtesy call with Her Excellency Martine Sobey, the British High Commissioner.

PWDAC, in partnership with the United Nations and the Berea Federation of the Persons with Disabilities, successfully convened a district engagement in Berea to introduce the Council and the Individual Complaints Mechanism for persons with disabilities.

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) launched the report, “From Exclusion to Equality: Advancing Access for Persons with Disabilities in Lesotho” on the 23rd September 2025 at Lancers Inn Maseru, calling for access to justice for persons with disabilities in practice.
